Episode 243: “Should my marketing address a general audience or should it be target-specific?”

Today’s question comes from one of our clients who is attending our Immersion Program that followed the most recent Titanium Mastermind in Phuket, Thailand. Immersion is a one-on-one coaching program that is offered to a small group of entrepreneurs who want to take their businesses to the next level. We usually offer Immersion as an add-on program after one of our Masterminds.

Diamond Member Tony Ashbolt is from the UK and is a successful business owner who joined MOBE because he is looking for the time freedom that comes with an internet business like MOBE. Tony wants to know if his marketing should target a laser-specific market or if he  should try to reach a more general audience.

I clarify that my answer is relevant to a marketer who is promoting an affiliate program like MOBE, a network marketing program or an MLM program.

I talk about the importance of speaking to a general audience in which you have some common background and who can relate to you and to your story.

But I caution that if you target a specific audience, you will miss a lot of potential customers who are on the fringe of your target market and I explain that it would be more profitable to cast a wider net to your audience.
