Episode 296: “I’m about to hire my first web-designer. What kind of advice can you give me?”

Today’s episode was recorded in the MOBE Film Studio in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The question comes from Desmond in Canada. Desmond says that he is getting ready to hire his first web-designer and wants to know what kind of advice I can offer him.

I share how I hired my first technical assistant when I was still at university.

I explain some of the things that I  look for when hiring any new staff person for any role and stress that attitude is the number one thing that I look for.

I discuss a practice that I always do before hiring any new staff member where  I give them a trial task in order to test their knowledge, their attitude, their resourcefulness, and their skill level.

I explain that for a web-design role, anytime a potential candidate understands  the basic principles of direct sales marketing, that that is a huge bonus.
