Episode 634: “What’s involved in buying an island?”

Today’s episode was recorded on the beach of my private island in Fiji. Recently, I made a request on Facebook for people to send in questions for me to answer about your business. I received some good ones that I am going to record for you over the coming days. Today’s question is from Luca, who wants to know what’s involved in buying an island.

I talk about the many different ways you can go about finding properties that are for sale including looking at various online sites or working directly with real estate brokers who deal in remote islands.

I discuss all of the people that you need recruit to help you navigate the terrain of putting a deal together, including lawyers who are well versed in the laws of that particular country, local experts who are familiar with governmental regulations and real estate professionals who will protect your interests when negotiating a deal.

I explain that there are lots of options when it comes to financing your deal and talk about lease hold options and free hold options; as well as different options you can consider for long term financing.
