Episode 651: “Why do you prefer to hire people who grew up in families where their parents ran businesses?”

Today’s episode was recorded in my hotel during a recent stay in Bangkok. Recently, I made a request on Facebook for people to send in questions for me to answer about your business. I received some good ones and I have recorded some of those for you. For today’s question, Deborah wants to know why I prefer to hire people who grew up in a family-run business environment.

I talk about my own experience growing up on my family’s wheat and sheep farm and how I was taught a very strong work ethic from an early age.

I discuss how important it is to understand the concept getting compensated for production and results, and not just for trading time for money.

I explain that my observation has been that people who have grown up in an entrepreneurial environment are generally self-motivated, hard working and resourceful and therefore, have a lot of the qualities I look for when hiring staff for my business.
